Centrum Surgery Center in San Antonio, TX is seeking a PRN Surgical Technologist to join our team. The role involves scrubbing in and assisting physicians across cases, with standby duties for sterile processing and related sterile techniques.

Requirements include graduation from an accredited surgical technology program, NBSTSA or NCCT certification (or military training), and a minimum of one year of experience; BLS certification is also expected.

Qualifications

• Graduate from an accredited educational program for surgical technologists (or equivalent).
• Certified as a Surgical Technologist by NBSTSA or NCCT; or trained via US armed forces program.
• Minimum one year of surgical technology experience in a healthcare facility.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.

Responsibilities

• Scrub in and assist the physician for all cases.
• Standby for sterile processing duties including decontamination, packaging, sterilization and storage.
• Manage instrumentation inventory and ensure on-hand supplies meet OR needs.
• Prepare carts and instrument sets, wrap, label and transport to the OR as needed.
• Monitor sterilization processes, document loads and ensure instrument functionality.

Centrum Surgery Centeris looking for a PRN Surgical Technologist to join our team!

SUMMARY:

The Surgical Technologist is responsible for scrubbing in and assisting the physician for all cases. After completion of each case, the surgical technologist will be on standby for sterile technician needs which includes the following aspects of sterileprocessing to include decontamination, preparation packaging sterilization and sterile storage while adhering to department policies and procedures.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

• Works with specialty surgical instrumentation, troubleshoots problems and repairs
• Assimilates and communicates information received from various sources in an accurate, timely, and effective manner
• Reviews instrumentation needs, manages inventory and stock operating par levels for stored instrumentation and
• emergency carts
• Identifies and follows manufactures instructions to sort, disassemble, decontaminate, rinse and disinfect instrumentation, flexible scopes, and equipment
• Utilizes count sheets consistently to correctly assemble, protect, wrap containerize and/or peel pack and label
• instrumentations
• Prepares carts from pick list and delivers instrumentation to as needed to the operating room
• Makes rounds through the operating rooms consistently and confirms instrumentation needs are met
• Facilitates room turnovers, adheres to the proper handling of garbage, linen, and biohazardous materials
• Follows manufactures recommendations for sterilization methods and selects appropriate sterilization methods
• Documents and verifies sterilization loads and biological test properly to determine the efficacy of the sterilization process
• Records utilization of instrumentation proficiency in tracking system
• Handles sterile products and ensures stock is placed in the proper location
• Identifies and inspects instruments for cleanliness and functionality
• Assembles and prepare instrumentation for sterilization
• Organizes workflow, problem solves, and manages, multiple ongoing priorities with minimal supervision
• Participates in staff and self-development meetings/in services and provides guidance and training to other staff as needed
• Protects patient and family privacy rights and maintains confidentiality of patient records
• Maintains awareness of safety hazards and maintains a clean and orderly work area
• Maintains professional competences and certifications
• Performs other related duties as assigned

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

• Knowledge of Medical Terminology
• Demonstrates strong knowledge of sterile technique related to operating room preparation and procedures

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

• Graduate from an accredited educational program for surgical technologists
• Certified as a Surgical Technologist by the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA)
• or the National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT); or
• Successful completion of an approved training program for surgical technology in the United States Armed Forces
• (Army, Navy, Air Force, Marine Corps, or Coast Guard) or the United States Public Health Service
• One (1) year of surgical technology experience in a healthcare facility
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certified
