Job summary

Townsen Memorial Hospital is seeking a PRN Surgical Technologist to scrub in and assist physicians across cases. You will support sterile processing including decontamination, preparation, packaging, sterilization, and proper storage while following department policies.

Ideal candidates have a high school diploma or GED, formal surgical technology education, CST certification, and BLS. The role requires strong sterile technique, instrumentation knowledge, and teamwork in a fast-paced operating

Job description

Townsen Memorial Hospital is looking for a PRN Surgical Technologist to join our team!

Summary

The Surgical Technologist is responsible for scrubbing in and assisting the physician for all cases. After completion of each case, the surgical technologist will be on standby for sterile technician needs which includes the following aspects of sterile processing to include decontamination, preparation, packaging, sterilization, and sterile storage while adhering to department policies and procedures.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  • Works with specialty surgical instrumentation, troubleshoots problems and repairs
  • Assimilates and communicates information received from various sources that is accurate, timely, and effective
  • Reviews instrumentation needs, manages inventory and stocks operating par levels for stored instrumentation and emergency carts
  • Identifies and follows manufacturer instructions to sort, disassemble, decontaminate, rinse and disinfect instrumentation, flexible scopes, equipment
  • Utilizes count sheets consistently to correctly assemble, protect, wrap, containerize and/or peel pack and label instrumentations
  • Prepares carts from pick list and delivers instrumentation as needed to the operating room
  • Makes rounds through the operating rooms consistently and confirms instrumentation needs are met
  • Facilitates room turnovers, adheres to the proper handling of garbage, linen, and biohazardous materials
  • Follows manufacturer recommendations for sterilization methods and selects appropriate methods
  • Documents and verifies sterilization loads and biological tests properly to determine the efficacy of the sterilization process
  • Records utilization of instrumentation tracking system
  • Handles sterile products and ensures stock is placed in the proper location
  • Identifies and inspects instruments for cleanliness and functionality
  • Assembles and prepares instrumentation for sterilization
  • Organizes the workflow, problem solves, and manages multiple ongoing priorities with minimal supervision
  • Participates in staff and self‑development meetings/in‑services and provides guidance and training to other staff as needed
  • Protects patient and family privacy rights and maintains confidentiality of patient records
  • Maintains awareness of safety hazards and maintains a clean and orderly work area
  • Maintains professional competences and certifications
  • Performs other related duties as assigned
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
  • Knowledge of Medical Terminology
  • Strong knowledge of sterile technique related to operating room preparation and procedures
  • Proficiency in medical and surgical technology
  • Strong knowledge of operating equipment and supplies
  • Leadership skills
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
  • High school diploma or GED
  • Formal education in surgical technology
  • Current Surgical Technologist Certification from an accredited program or completion of an appropriate training program for surgical technology in the U.S. armed services or the U.S. Public Health Service
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certified
  • Completion of additional educational requirements as assigned by due dates
  • Annual employee health requirement as established by the facility (e.g., PPD annual testing)
Compensation and Employment Conditions

Compensation to be determined by the education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities of the applicant, internal equity, and alignment with market data. Employment for this position is contingent upon the successful completion of a background check and drug screening.
