Job summary

BJC HealthCare - Alton Memorial Hospital is seeking a Surgical Technician to support the operating room team on a PRN basis. You’ll prepare the OR, perform surgical scrub duties, assist with specimens, and help with room turnover.

Minimum requirements include a High School Diploma or GED, and <2 years or military equivalent experience. An accredited surgical program and/or Surgical Technician certification are preferred to join our team.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required or equivalent.
• Completion of Accredited Surgical Program preferred.
• Surgical Technician certification/licensure as applicable.

Responsibilities

• Prepares operating room for surgical patient, reviews surgeon needs, obtains supplies and equipment, ensures room cleanliness and sterile setup.
• Performs surgical scrub duties and assists with collection, identification and disposition of cultures and specimens.
• Assists in turning over the room and returns instruments and supplies to proper locations.

• Schedule: PRN - 24 hours per 6 week schedule
• Hours: 5a-5p or 5p-5a
• Call: 12 hours per 6 week schedule
• Holiday: One Summer and One Winter
• Additional Info: OB unit, in addition to the surg tech duties, our techs function as registration, room turn over, Pct duties and are hands on with infant care.

Role Purpose

Performs surgical duties for operating room procedures under the direct supervision of a registered nurse.

Responsibilities

• Prepares operating room for surgical patient, reviews preference cards to determine surgeon needs, obtains the necessary supplies and equipment for the procedure, ensures cleanliness of room, and assists with opening sterile supplies.
• Performs surgical scrub duties, and assists with the collection, identification, and disposition of cultures and specimens.
• Assists in turning over of room, and ensures supplies, instruments, and equipment are returned to proper location.
