Job summary

BJC HealthCare - Alton Memorial Hospital in Illinois is seeking a Surgical Technician to support the operating room team. Under RN supervision, you perform surgical duties, prepare the OR, and assist with instruments.

The role requires a high school diploma or GED and less than 2 years of experience (or military equivalent). Schedule is 0700-1730, Monday–Friday, with on-call for holidays and weekends as part of a Call Crew.

• Licenses & Certifications: Surgical Technician.

Responsibilities

• Prepares operating room for surgical patient, reviews cards and obtains supplies.
• Performs surgical scrub duties and assists with cultures and specimens.
• Turns over room and returns instruments and equipment to proper location.

• Schedule: Monday to Friday
• 4/10 hour shifts
• Hours: 0700-1730
• Call -1-2 holidays/year(24 hour) and every 6-7th weekend (Sat 7am – Mon 7am); 45 min response time

***$12,500 Sign on Bonus***

Overview

Since 1937, Alton Memorial Hospital has cared for residents in Alton, Illinois, and the surrounding communities in a five-county area. Starting as a land gift to the community from the Smith family, Alton Memorial today is a full-service acute care hospital. Alton Memorial offers patients a variety of inpatient and outpatient services, including surgery services, medical imaging, interventional and diagnostic heart services, cancer care, rehabilitation, 24-hour emergency care, ambulance services and more.

The Operating Room is made up of 7 General rooms, one Cysto room, and one Minor procedure room. Staffed from 0700 till 1700 Monday-Friday with all other hours and days covered with a Call Crew.

Preferred Qualifications

Role Purpose

Performs surgical duties for operating room procedures under the direct supervision of a registered nurse.

Responsibilities

• Prepares operating room for surgical patient, reviews preference cards to determine surgeon needs, obtains the necessary supplies and equipment for the procedure, ensures cleanliness of room, and assists with opening sterile supplies.
• Performs surgical scrub duties, and assists with the collection, identification, and disposition of cultures and specimens.
• Assists in turning over of room, and ensures supplies, instruments, and equipment are returned to proper location.

Education

• High School Diploma or GED

Experience

• <2 years or military equivalent experience
