Job summary

Newton-Wellesley Hospital is seeking a Surgical Technologist to assist in operations under supervision. You will help set up the operating room, pass instruments to surgeons, and support the team during procedures.

This role requires a high school diploma, 3–5 years of OR experience, and familiarity with sterile processing. Sign-on and referral bonuses are available; onsite day shift in Wellesley, MA.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent required.
• CST NBSTSA preferred; BLS preferred.
• 3–5 years operating room experience; leadership experience 3–5 years preferred.

Job Summary

Under supervision, assists in operations. May help set up the operating room, prepare and transport patients for surgery, adjust lights and equipment, pass instruments and other supplies to surgeons and surgeons' assistants, hold retractors, cut sutures, and help count sponges, needles, supplies, and instruments. May provide day-to-day guidance/direction to more junior staff.

Essential Functions

• Participates in time-out procedures.
• Attainment of extra supplies and equipment as needed.
• Sets up equipment independently.
• Participates as an active member of the Patient Care Team.
• Monitor and continually assess operating room conditions, including patient and surgical team needs.
• Prepare patients for surgery, including positioning patients on the operating table and covering them with sterile surgical drapes to prevent exposure.
• Knowledge of SPD Sterile Room.

Qualifications

• Education: High School Diploma or Equivalent required. Can this role accept experience in lieu of a degree? No
• Licenses and Credentials: Basic Life Support [BLS] - Generic - HR Only preferred Certified Surgical Technologist [CST] - National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA) preferred
• Experience: Experience at time of hire: Three (3) years of diversified experience in the operating/procedure room 3-5 years required and Experience scrubbing in multiple specialties; five (5) years of experience preferred, and one (1) year of experience working and leading teams 3-5 years preferred
• Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Knowledge of SPD Sterile Room. - Ability to multitask and work in a fast-paced clinical environment. - Advanced knowledge of sterile processing procedures and policies. - Familiarity with medical terminology and departmental supply items is required.
