Job summary

Mass General Brigham's Newton-Wellesley Hospital in Newton, MA seeks a Surgical Technologist for a 32-hour night position (4x8) from 11:00 PM to 7:30 AM, with every other weekend and rotating holidays. You will assist in OR setup, transport patients, pass instruments, and support surgeons and the surgical team.

The role requires knowledge of SPD sterile room, multitasking in a fast-paced clinical environment, and adherence to sterile processing procedures.

Qualifications

• Education: High School Diploma or Equivalent; experience preferred but not required for degree replacement.
• Licenses: CSFA (NBSTSA) or CST preferred.
• Experience: 2–3 years as a surgical technologist in an acute care setting; 4 years preferred.

Responsibilities

• Assist in operating room setup and equipment readiness.
• Prepare patients for surgery and position them on the table.
• Pass instruments to surgeons and assistants; count sponges, needles, and supplies.
• Monitor operating room conditions and support the patient care team.

Job Summary

32hr Nights 4x 8hrs 11p-730a. Every other weekend and rotating holidays.

Under supervision, assists in operations. May help set up the operating room, prepare and transport patients for surgery, adjust lights and equipment, pass instruments and other supplies to surgeons and surgeons' assistants, hold retractors, cut sutures, and help count sponges, needles, supplies, and instruments.

Essential Functions

• Participates in time-out procedures.
• Attainment of extra supplies and equipment as needed.
• Sets up equipment independently.
• Participates as an active member of the Patient Care Team.
• Monitor and continually assess operating room conditions, including patient and surgical team needs.
• Prepare patients for surgery, including positioning patients on the operating table and covering them with sterile surgical drapes to prevent exposure.
• Knowledge of SPD Sterile Room.

Qualifications

Education High School Diploma or Equivalent required. Can this role accept experience in lieu of a degree? No

Licenses and Credentials Certified Surgical First Assistant [CSFA (NBSTSA)] - National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA) preferred. Certified Surgical Technologist [CST] - National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA) preferred.

Experience Experience as a surgical technologist in an acute care setting 2-3 years required and Four (4) years experience as a surgical technologist in an acute care setting; committee and leadership experience 3-5 years preferred.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities - Knowledge of SPD Sterile Room. - Ability to multitask, can work in a fast-paced clinical environment. - Advanced knowledge of sterile processing procedures and policies. - Familiarity with medical terminology and departmental supply items is required.
