Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED.
• Completion of a Surgical Technician Program.
• Certification as required by state and/or center.
• Ambulatory surgical center experience preferred.
• Orthopedic and/or ENT experience strongly preferred.
• Strong knowledge of surgical procedures and patient management.
• Understanding of aseptic techniques and their implementation.
• Teamwork and communication skills essential.

Responsibilities

• Anticipates needs of the surgical team and maintains sterile field.
• Assists circulating nurse and team to maintain sterile environment.
• Counts sponges, needles, and instruments pre- and intra-operatively.
• Gowns and gloves surgeons and assistants.
• Keeps physician preference cards accurate/updated.
• Handles specimens and routes to pathology with proper labeling.
• Transports equipment and assists with cleaning and reprocessing of instrument sets.
• Adheres to safety guidelines and ensures privacy of patients and staff.
• Communicates effectively with visitors, physicians, and office staff.
