Job summary

Geisinger is seeking a certified Surgical Technologist to assist surgeons and participate actively in perioperative care for patients of all ages. Responsibilities include preparing sterile fields, maintaining counts of instruments, assisting with specimens, and supporting the surgical team.

Qualifications

• Current CST certification required.
• Ability to assist in surgical procedures and prep.
• Strong teamwork and communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Assists in coordinating treatments with other disciplines.
• Provides basic patient assistance during perioperative care.
• Connects patients to clinical equipment as needed.
• Practices aseptic techniques while preparing for surgery.
• Participates in surgical time and intraoperative briefings.
• Identifies the surgical site with the circulating nurse and surgeon before incision.
• Maintains an accurate count of sponges, needles and instruments.
• Prepares, identifies and verifies specimens collected during surgery.
• Disposes of linens, needles and sharps properly.
• Assesses wounds and changes sterile dressings as directed.
