Qualifications

• Ability to scrub basic surgical procedures under supervision.

Responsibilities

• Function as the first or second Surgical Technician under the direct supervision of a Surgical Tech Preceptor and RN.
• Deliver safe and effective intraoperative patient care.
• Maintain a sterile environment during surgical setup and procedures.
• Demonstrate competency in technical and psychomotor skills, judgment, and knowledge.
• Provide age-specific care to obstetrical patients per department policies.
• Organize and coordinate supplies and equipment.
• Maintain a safe environment and follow safety and hospital requirements.
• Charge for equipment and supplies.
• Participate in room turnover and setup.
• Maintain and clean equipment and identify items needing repair.
• Perform sterilization and disinfection and document loads.
• Obtain supplies and assist with patient positioning.
• Perform instrument sterilization and document per policy.
• Scrub for Medical Students, Residents, and other students.
• Turn over operating rooms and set up for next patient efficiently.

• Deliver safe and effective intraoperative patient care
• Apply aseptic principles to maintain a sterile environment during surgical setup and procedures
• Demonstrate competency in technical and psychomotor skills, judgment, and knowledge
• Provide age-specific care to obstetrical patients according to department policies and procedures
• Organize and coordinate supplies and equipment
• Maintain a safe environment and follow safety, legal, hospital, and unit requirements
• Charge for equipment and supplies
• Participate in room turnover and setup
• Maintain and clean equipment and identify items needing repair
• Perform sterilization and disinfection and document loads according to policy
• Obtain supplies, equipment, and positioning devices and assist with patient positioning
• Perform sterilization of surgical instruments and document according to policy
• Perform scrubbing duties for Medical Students, Residents, and other students
• Turn over operating rooms and set up for the next patient efficiently

Requirements

• Currently enrolled in a Surgical Technology Program
• Must have begun the clinical portion/process of training
• H.S. Diploma/GED
• Basic Life Support (BLS) within 30 days from the American Heart Association (AHA)
• Basic knowledge of anatomy and physiology, medical terminology, microbiology, and pharmacology
• Basic knowledge of electricity, chemistry, computers, robotics, and lasers
• Knowledge and practice of patient care concepts and perioperative teamwork
• Knowledge of sterile technique during surgical procedures
• Ability to scrub basic surgical procedures under the direct supervision of a Surgical Tech Preceptor
• Ability to problem solve in relation to the procedure being performed
