Job summary

HealthPartners in Saint Paul, MN seeks a Surgical Technologist to join our Level I Trauma Center operating room team. You will scrub, prepare supplies, assist the Circulator, and maintain a sterile field throughout procedures.

New grads welcome. Shift mix includes day and evening hours, occasional overnight coverage, with weekend call and benefits including health/dental insurance, 401k with match, disability, tuition reimbursement, educational reimbursement, and PSLF eligibility.

Qualifications

  • Completion of a surgical technologist training program.
  • NBSTSA or NCCT certification within 12 months of hire.
  • CPR certification required at time of employment and every two years thereafter.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with preparation of the OR suite by reviewing the preference card and supplies.
  • Maintain sterile field of instruments and supplies during procedures.
  • Anticipate and communicate the surgeon's needs; have instruments and supplies readily available.
  • Set up sterile instruments, suture and supplies and support the Circulator.

Job description

Join our Operating Room team as a Surgical Technologist in a Level I Trauma Center! The Surgical Technologist functions as an active member of the surgical team in the role of the scrub person. This includes assisting the Circulator with the preparation of the O.R. suite by reviewing the preference card for the appropriate supplies, assists with the gathering of equipment and instrumentation, practices department procedures for hand scrub, gowning and gloving, accurately prepares drugs under the supervision of the Registered Nurse Circulator, sets up sterile instruments, suture and all sterile supplies and maintains sterile field of instruments and supplies during procedures. The Surgical Technologist anticipates and communicates the surgeon’s needs and has instruments & supplies readily available for use.

Work Schedule:

A mix of 8‑hour day shifts (6:45 a.m.–3:15 p.m., 9:00 a.m.–5:30 p.m.) and evening shifts (2:45 p.m.–10:45 p.m.). Occasional overnight coverage (10:45 p.m.–7:15 a.m.). Additional shifts (10‑ or 12‑hour, mid‑day 10:45 a.m.–5:15 p.m.) may be assigned based on need. Weekly call rotation with weekend call every 8th weekend. Holidays and vacation per seniority.

Required Qualifications:
  • Completion of a surgical technologist training program
  • Completion of national certification exam offered by the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA), or National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT) within 12 months of hire date. Certification to be maintained by employee during length of employment.
  • CPR certification required at time of employment and every two years thereafter.
Additional Information:

This is a non-union 1.0 FTE (80 hours per pay period) day/evening shift position, working in Saint Paul, MN. The full salary range for this position is $37.43-$50.65 per hour, based on experience and internal equity, plus shift differentials.This position is non-exempt under the Fair Labor Standards Act, and is eligible for benefits. Our benefits include medical and dental insurance (which begin on the first day of the month following start), 401k with match, disability insurance, fertility benefits, tuition reimbursement, educational reimbursement toward continuing education, and we are a qualified non-profit employer under the federal Public Service Loan Forgiveness program.
