Overview
Hennepin Healthcare is an integrated healthcare system with a 473‑bed academic medical center and a large outpatient Clinic & Specialty Center. We seek several Surgical Technologists to join our OR team on a part‑time basis (64 hours per pay period) with day, evening, night, every 4th weekend, and on‑call shifts. The role is 8‑hour shifts with benefits and a mandatory on‑call per unit policy.

Responsibilities
- Demonstrate comprehensive knowledge of surgical procedures and instrumentation.
- Select instruments, equipment, and supplies for each surgical procedure.
- Prepare the OR room by setting up sterile tables and checking equipment and supplies.
- Scrub for surgical procedures: assist the surgeon with prep and draping, pass sterile instruments and supplies, and assist with the surgical procedure as appropriate.
- Follow the principles of sterile technique and remedy breaks in sterile technique when observed.
- Identify specimens before passing off the field and transport specimens to Pathology as directed.
- Operate specified OR equipment in the manner in which they have been trained.
- Assist RN with circulating duties as delegated.
- Assist with transfer of patients into or out of the operating room.
- Clean rooms, instruments, and equipment appropriately.
- Identify and report instruments and equipment in need of maintenance.
- Assist in teaching scrub role responsibilities to residents, nurses, and surgical technologist students.
- Support the operating room team as needed.
- Keep up‑to‑date on new procedures and equipment and communicate changes to other staff.
- Pursue professional growth and development.
- Perform all responsibilities and duties required to ensure that the client’s unique nature is addressed.
- Function as a role model for current and new surgical staff.
- May be required to perform additional tasks such as restocking, cleaning equipment, and other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications
- Completion of a Surgical Technologist program from an accredited institution, applicable military training, or two (2) years of experience as a surgical technologist.
- CST certification required by the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA).

- Completion of a Surgical Technologist program from an accredited institution, applicable military training, or two (2) years of experience as a surgical technologist.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- A firm understanding of the surgical process and the ability to use critical thinking skills to assist the surgeon in providing high quality patient care.
- The ability to remain calm in sometimes stressful situations.
- A willingness to learn new procedures and processes.
