Qualifications

Primary Purpose

Serves as a lead in preparing operating rooms for surgery, providing technical services, assisting during complex surgeries, and maintaining documentation to ensure activities meet operating room and Parkland requirements.

Shift

Operating Room: No fixed shift; we hire for rotating shifts, 40 hours per week, staffing 24/7. Shifts may include 4x10s, 5x8s, 2x12s and 2x8s. Self-scheduling; no call required.

Surgical Technologist Shift Differentials
  • Evenings: $3.25
  • Nights: $4.00
  • Weekends: $5.00
Experience

None required.

Certification/Registration/Licensure

Must meet Texas state requirements, including successful completion of an accredited surgical technologist program and maintaining certification through recognized boards. Also, current healthcare provider CPR from AHA, Red Cross, or Military Training Network.

  • Knowledge of surgical equipment, instruments, and procedures.
  • Ability to prioritize and perform under stress.
  • Knowledge of aseptic techniques and ability to recognize and correct breaches.
  • Effective communication skills, both oral and written.
  • Flexibility to work shifts or hours as needed.
  • Patient-centered behaviors.
Responsibilities
  1. Assist the surgical team during procedures, ensuring needs are met.
  2. Prepare and clean rooms, instruments, and supplies, practicing aseptic techniques.
  3. Serve as a resource for less experienced technologists.
  4. Accurately communicate patient data to team members and management.
  5. Participate in care planning and support specialty nurse coordination.
  6. Maintain positive relationships with patients and staff to ensure safety and meet operational needs.
  7. Identify process improvements and implement them to enhance satisfaction and efficiency.
  8. Train and orient new staff and students.
  9. Adhere to applicable laws, regulations, policies, and guidelines, developing internal controls to ensure compliance.
  10. Stay updated on industry developments through training, seminars, and reading, applying new knowledge to practice.
Job Accountabilities
  1. Identify and implement process improvements, monitor outcomes.
  2. Keep current with industry trends and integrate new knowledge into practice.
  3. Maintain compliance with laws and guidelines, developing internal controls.
