Primary Purpose

Serves as a lead in preparing operating rooms for surgery, providing technical services, assisting during complex surgeries, and maintaining documentation to ensure activities meet operating room and Parkland requirements.

Operating Room Shift

There is no fixed shift. We hire for rotating shifts, 40 hours a week. We staff 24/7, but do not assign specific shifts. Shifts may include several combinations: 4 10-hour shifts, 5 8-hour shifts, 2 12-hour shifts and 2 8-hour shifts. We do self-scheduling and do not require on-call.

  • Evenings: $3.25
  • Nights: $4.00
  • Weekends: $5.00
Experience

None required.

Certification/Registration/Licensure

Requirements for practicing surgical technology in Texas include:

  • Completion of an accredited surgical technologist program and certification by the NBSTSA, NCT, or another approved program.
  • Alternatively, completion of military or U.S. Public Health Service training programs.
  • Current healthcare provider CPR from AHA, Red Cross, or Military Training Network.
Skills and Abilities
  • Basic knowledge of surgical equipment, instruments, and procedures.
  • Ability to set priorities and perform under stress.
  • Knowledge of aseptic techniques and ability to recognize and correct breaches.
  • Effective communication skills, both oral and written.
  • Flexibility to work shifts or hours as needed.
  • Patient-centered behaviors and effective teamwork.
Responsibilities
  1. Assist the surgical team during procedures, functioning as a scrub role to meet team needs.
  2. Prepare operating rooms with instruments, sutures, supplies, and equipment; maintain aseptic technique.
  3. Serve as a resource for less experienced surgical technologists.
  4. Accurately communicate patient data and assist in multidisciplinary planning.
  5. Maintain positive relationships with patients, staff, physicians, and visitors.
  6. Identify process improvements and contribute to customer satisfaction.
  7. Provide training and orientation to new staff and students.
  8. Ensure compliance with applicable laws, regulations, and standards.
  9. Stay updated with developments in surgical technology through training and reading.

  2. Maintain current knowledge of regulations and standards, ensuring adherence.
  3. Develop internal controls to promote compliance and quality.
