Job summary

Primary Purpose

Serves as a lead in preparing operating rooms for surgery, providing technical services, assisting during complex surgeries, and maintaining documentation to ensure activities meet operating room and Parkland requirements.

Operating Room Shift

There is no fixed shift. We hire for rotating shifts, 40 hours a week, staffing 24/7. We do not assign specific shifts. Shifts may include combinations of 4 10-hour shifts, 5 8-hour shifts, 2 12-hour shifts, and 2 8-hour shifts. We do self-scheduling and do not take call.

Experience & Certification/Registration/Licensure
  • Requirements for Practicing Surgical Technology in Texas (per Texas H.B. 643-Chapter 259):
  • Completed an accredited surgical technologist program and hold certification from the NBSTSA, NCCT, or an approved program.
  • Or completed military or U.S. Public Health Service surgical technology training.
  • Current healthcare provider CPR certification from AHA, Red Cross, or Military Training Network.
Skills or Special Abilities
  • Basic knowledge of surgical equipment, instruments, and procedures.
  • Ability to set priorities and work under stress.
  • Knowledge of aseptic techniques and ability to recognize and correct breaks in aseptic technique.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Flexibility to work shifts or hours as needed.
  • Ability to work well with hospital staff and demonstrate patient-centered behaviors.
Responsibilities
  1. Assist the surgical team during procedures, functioning as a scrub role.
  2. Prepare rooms with instruments, sutures, supplies, and clean as needed.
  3. Serve as a resource for other surgical technologists and answer questions.
  4. Accurately communicate patient data to team members.
  5. Participate in multidisciplinary care planning and assist service-specific needs.
  6. Maintain positive relationships with patients and staff to ensure safety and meet operational needs.
  7. Identify process improvements and implement them.
  8. Provide training and orientation to new staff and students.
  9. Adhere to applicable rules, regulations, and policies, developing effective internal controls.
  10. Stay updated on developments in surgical technology through training and professional reading.
