Novant Health Brunswick Medical Center is seeking a Surgical Technologist for the Labor & Delivery team. The role supports the operating room through sterile technique, instrument handling, and room preparation under surgeon and RN supervision.

Night shift, full-time with shift differential, in Bolivia, NC location. The ideal candidate has a Surgical Technology background, CST or equivalent certification, and strong customer service and communication skills to support patient care during

Qualifications

• Education: High School Diploma or GED, required; graduate from Surgical Technology program or military training equivalent.
• Experience: Previous Surgical Technologist experience preferred.
• Licensure/Certification: CST/TS-C/ NRCST/SA-C preferred; state-specific certs may be required.
• Additional Skills: Complete skill validation, demonstrate customer service, communication, interpersonal, and time management.

Responsibilities

The Labor & Delivery Surgical Technologist works under the supervision of a surgeon and registered nurse to facilitate the safe and effective conduct of invasive surgical procedures, ensuring that the operating room environment is safe, that equipment functions properly, and that the operative procedure is conducted under conditions that maximize patient safety. Surgical technologists possess expertise in the theory and application of sterile and aseptic technique and combine the knowledge of human anatomy, surgical procedures, and implementation tools and technologies to facilitate a physician's performance of invasive therapeutic and diagnostic procedures.

What You'll Do

Essential Functions

Patient Care: Assists with patient care while complying with Novant Health policies and procedures and regulatory standards. Maintains clinical and professional surgical services competencies. Assists in maintaining the security of medications.

Communication: Practices effective interpersonal communication skills.

Physical Tasks: Checks supplies and equipment needed for surgical procedure. Scrubs, gowns, and gloves. Sets up sterile table with instruments, supplies, equipment, and medications/solutions needed for procedure. Performs counts per Novant Health policy. Gowns and gloves surgeon and assistants. Helps in draping sterile field. Passes instruments, etc., to surgeon during procedure. Maintains highest standard of sterile technique during procedure. Prepares sterile dressings. Cleans and prepares instruments for terminal sterilization. Assists other members of team with cleaning of room. Assists in prepping room for the next patient.

Round on patients to create meaningful connections and keep patients informed of visit details (delays/wait times). What We're Looking For

• Education: High School Diploma or GED, required. Graduate of an accredited School of Surgical Technology program or Military Training Equivalent (68D – Operating Room Specialist). For incumbents who are not graduates of an accredited School of Surgical Technology or have certification please see additional skills required. Online Surgical Tech program credits will not be accepted.
• Experience: Previous Surgical Technologist experience., preferred.
• Licensure/Certification: Current Surgical Tech Certification (CST, TS-C, NRCST, or SA-C), preferred. Current Surgical Tech Certification - based on state specific regulations (South Carolina Region Only), required.
• Additional Skills (required): For incumbents who are not graduates of an accredited School of Surgical Technology or have certification the following additional requirements may apply: recommended for new graduates to obtain certification within 12 months of hire. Ability to successfully complete generic and department‑specific skill validation and competency testing. Demonstrate effective and appropriate customer service skills, verbal and nonverbal communication techniques, interpersonal relationship skills, and time management skills.
