Job Summary

Provides intraoperative care to patients by functioning as the scrub person assisting the surgical team during an operative procedure.

Minimum Qualifications (if hired prior to 2/1/2024)

• Current licensure as a Licensed Practical Nurse OR completion of a Surgical Technology Program and surgical technologist certification OR completion of summer surgical tech extern program and surgical technologist certification within 90 days of hire.
• Obtain certification in Basic Life Support within 30 days of hire.

Experience: Two years of Surgical Technology experience. Preferred: Advanced knowledge in desired specialty.

Core Duties and Responsibilities

Assist in maintaining a sterile environment, support surgical team members, manage supplies, and participate in educational activities. Specific duties include preparing supplies, assisting with patient positioning, performing counts, and ensuring equipment readiness.

Physical Requirements

• Prolonged standing and walking.
• Lifting up to 40 pounds and pushing carts up to 200 lbs.
• Visual, hearing, oral acuity, manual dexterity, and ability to wear lead protection.

Working Environment

Characteristics of the work environment encountered during job performance, with accommodations available as needed.

Skills and Abilities

• Articulate clinical rationale.
• Clinical ability to fulfill call responsibilities, typically requiring six months of experience at WVUH.
• Ability to independently scrub two service lines.
