Job summary

Children's Wisconsin in Milwaukee seeks a Surgical Technologist to join our pediatric surgical team. You will help prepare patients and operating rooms, and assist during procedures to promote safe patient care.

Requirements include completion of a surgical technologist program, 2 years of experience (1 year in pediatrics), and BLS certification; CST certification is preferred. Hours typically 7am-5pm or 9am-7pm with call requirements.

Qualifications

• Completion of a surgical technologist program.
• 2 years of surgical technologist experience with a minimum of 1 year in pediatrics.
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification is required.

Responsibilities

• Prepare patients and operating rooms for surgery, and serve as an extra set of hands during procedures.
• Pass instruments/equipment to the surgeon and manage the sterile field, anticipating needs during operations.
• Assist with orientation of new personnel in the surgical technologist role.

As a highly trained professional, you will help prepare patients and operating rooms for surgery, and serve as an extra set of hands during surgical procedures.

Function as a member of the surgical team who promotes safe patient care, prepares for surgical procedures and manages the sterile field, assists the surgeon by passing instruments/equipment and anticipating needs during surgical procedures. Understands and satisfies the supply, instrumentation and equipment needs from neonatal to adult patients. Demonstrates advanced knowledge and proficient practice in the first scrub role for most surgical procedures. Assists with orientation of new personnel in the surgical technologist role.

Position requirements:

• Must have completion of a surgical technologist program.
• Experience required; 2 years of surgical technologist experience with a minimum of 1 year in pediatrics.
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers through the American Heart Association or American Red Cross is required.
• Surgical Technologist Certification preferred.

Hours: 7am-5pm or 9am-7pm depending on department needs.

• This position also requires weekday, weekend and holiday call requirements (must report to the hospital within 30 mins).
• Orientation will be Monday through Friday from 6:50am until 3:20pm with off shift rotation. Orientation lasts approximately 6 months.
