Job summary

University of Iowa Health Care in Iowa City seeks a Surgical Technologist to assist with surgical procedures, maintain aseptic technique, and support the perioperative team. Qualifications

• Satisfactory completion of a vocational or military course in surgical technology, or certification as a surgical technologist.
• Direct patient care experience in an operating room is preferred.
• Strong written communication skills are desirable.

Responsibilities

• Prepare surgical area for patient care and anticipate the needs of the surgical team.
• Assist with surgical procedures and provide equipment, instruments and supplies as needed.
• Maintain aseptic technique and report breaks in sterility to the team.
• Provide for proper care and handling of implants and instrumentation.
• Document activities under the direction of the Registered Nurse.
• Serve as primary preceptor to orient new staff and student technologists.
