Job summary

Allegheny Health Network is seeking a Surgical Technologist to support the operating room before, during, and after procedures. You will assist in setting up the suite, applying aseptic techniques, positioning, and counts to ensure patient safety and efficiency.

The role requires a 1-year certificate in surgical technology; CPR within 60 days; and preferred 1–3 years of experience. Certification (CST/TS-C) within 6 months is expected.

Qualifications

• Certificate from a college or technical school in surgical technology.
• CPR - American Heart Association within 60 days of hire.
• Preferred: 1–3 years of Surgical Technologist experience.
• National CST or TS-C certification within 6 months of hire.

Responsibilities

• Set up the operating suite with instruments and supplies.
• Follow aseptic techniques and standard precautions for medications and specimens.
• Assist with patient positioning and draping; participate in surgical pause for site verification.
• Adapt to surgeon preferences and update preference materials as needed.
• Perform sponge, needle, and instrument counts.
• Care for and use resources efficiently to support a cost-effective environment.

GENERAL OVERVIEW:

Performs direct and indirect technical tasks for patients before, during, and after surgical interventions.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Assists in setting up the surgical operating suite with appropriate instruments and supplies. (20%)


• Utilizes proper aseptic techniques and practices standard precautions. Follows policy for medication and specimen handling. (20%)


• Assists with preparing, positioning and draping patients and participates in the surgical pause to assure correct patient and surgical site. (20%)


• Understands, anticipates and adapts to surgeon preference and patient care variables, and contributes to updating surgeon preference materials. (20%)


• Performs sponge, needle, and instrument count. (10%)


• Cares for and utilizes resources to promote cost effective and efficient environment for patients. (10%)


• Performs other duties as assigned or required.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Minimum

• One year certificate from a college or technical school; or three to six months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Preferred

• 1-3 years of Surgical Technologist experience

Additional Employment Requirements:

• Accredited Surgical Technologist program completion and nationally recognized certification (CST, TS-C) within 6 months of hire. Military programs accepted.


• Employment as a surgical technologist by this facility before 12/29/2020, or at another facility within the two years prior to 12/29/2020.


• CPR - American Heart Association within 60 days of hire.
