Job summary

Inova Fair Oaks Hospital is seeking a Surgical Technologist 1 to support the operating room team in a full-time daytime role. The tech assists the circulating nurse with perioperative planning, prepares the sterile field, and helps manage instruments and supplies for each case.

The position requires a high school diploma or GED, BLS certification, and Virginia state licensure as a Surgical Technologist upon hire; no prior experience is required, and Inova emphasizes team health and work-life

Qualifications

• Education: High School diploma or GED.
• Experience: None required.
• Licensure: Registered Surgical Technologist upon start; registered in the Commonwealth of Virginia as a Surgical Technologist at time of hire.
• Certification: Basic Life Support (BLS) upon start.

Responsibilities

• Assists the circulating nurse in implementing the perioperative plan of care, including patient positioning, site confirmation, prep of operative area, updating physician preference card, care of specimens, and room turnover.
• Performs and/or provides scrub assistance during procedures with proper anatomical knowledge and procedural principles.
• Identifies factors related to patient age and developmental stage that must be considered during the procedure.
• Assists with pulling cases, checks case carts for completeness, obtains supplies and equipment, and ensures they are in good working order before a case begins.
• Prepares the operating room by opening sterile supplies, instruments, and sutures based on scheduled procedure and surgeon preference.
• Exercises care in the operation and use of instruments/equipment and reports any broken items.
