Allegheny Health Network in Erie County is seeking a Surgical Technologist who will assist in surgical procedures and ensure the operating suite is ready for interventions. Candidates must have at least a one-year certificate or equivalent experience, with preferred experience of 1-3 years.

This position also requires certification in CPR within 60 days of hire. A sign-on bonus is being offered for eligible new hires.

Job Description

This position offers a sign‑on bonus for eligible new hires.

General Overview

This job performs direct and indirect technical tasks for patients before, during, and after surgical interventions.

Essential Responsibilities

• Assists in setting up the surgical operating suite with appropriate instruments and supplies. (20%)
• Utilizes proper aseptic techniques and practices standard precautions. Follows policy for medication and specimen handling. (20%)
• Assists with preparing, positioning, and draping patients and participates in the surgical pause to assure correct patient and surgical site. (20%)
• Understands, anticipates, and adapts to surgeon preference and patient care variables, and contributes to updating surgeon preference materials. (20%)
• Performs sponge, needle, and instrument count. (10%)
• Cares for and utilizes resources to promote a cost‑effective and efficient environment for patients. (10%)
• Performs other duties as assigned or required.

Qualifications – Minimum

• One year certificate from a college or technical school; or three to six months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Surgical Technologist (ST) hired after 12/29/2020 must have one of the following:
  • Education and certification from an accredited Surgical Technologist program and nationally recognized certification (CST, TS‑C) within 6 months of hire. Military programs accepted.
  • Pre‑existing employment as a surgical technologist at this facility before 12/29/2020, or at another facility within the two years prior to 12/29/2020.
• CPR – American Heart Association certification within 60 days of hire.

Qualifications – Preferred

• 1–3 years of Surgical Technologist experience.
