Job summary

Allegheny Health Network is seeking a Surgical Technologist to assist surgeons in various procedures. This role requires competence in technical skills and an understanding of surgical protocols. Candidates should have a certificate from an accredited program and specialized experience.

The Surgical Technologist will ensure proper aseptic techniques and assist in maintaining a safe and efficient operating room environment. CPR certification is also required.

Qualifications

• CPR certification from American Heart Association.

Responsibilities

General Overview: This job scrubs and assists the surgeon on surgical procedures involving all age groups; works under the direction of the professional registered nurse.

Essential Responsibilities

• Demonstrates competent technical skills and performs scrub functions related to the intra‑operative phase. Understands, anticipates and adapts to surgeon preference and patient care variables and contributes to updating surgeon preference materials.
• Demonstrates knowledge of accepted procedures performed during the inter‑operative phase utilizing proper aseptic techniques and practices standard precautions. Follows policy for medication and specimen handling.
• Assists with the preparation of the surgical suite.
• Contributes to division, hospital, and department goals.
• Performs sponge, needle and instrument count.
• Performs other duties as assigned or required.

Qualifications

Minimum

• One year certificate from a college or technical school; or three to six months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• 3-5 years’ specialty experience.
• Surgical Technologist (ST) hired after 12/29/2020 must meet one of the following:
  • Education and certification from an accredited Surgical Technologist program and nationally recognized certification (CST, TS‑C) within 6 months of hire. Military programs accepted.
  • Pre‑existing employment as a surgical technologist by this facility before 12/29/2020, or at another facility within the two years prior to 12/29/2020.
