Job summary

UChicago Medicine in Chicago, IL is seeking a Surgical Technologist I to join the Birth Center - Delivery Room. This 0.9 FTE, night-shift, on-site role requires CST certification and BLS, and residency in the greater Chicagoland area.

You will scrub in all services for adults and pediatrics, prepare rooms, assist with instrument counts, and maintain sterile technique while collaborating with RNs, surgeons, and central sterile processing.

Qualifications

• Education: High school diploma or equivalent; Graduate of Accredited Surgical Technologist program.
• Must be a graduate of an accredited Surgical Technologist program; CST certification required or obtainable within 12 months of hire.
• Basic knowledge and ability to perform surgical technologist skills; effective communication with RN and MD.
• Ability to function as a member of the surgical team, execute surgeon and RN instructions with speed and accuracy.
• Able to prioritize daily activities and remain composed under stress.
• BLS certification is required.

Responsibilities

• Independently performs surgical scrub role within the operative field for adult and pediatric cases.
• Applies knowledge of surgical techniques and aseptic practices.
• Maintains infection control practices and proper use of sterilizers and disposables.
• Coordinates with leadership and central sterile processing for case preparation and room setup.
• Opens sterile supplies onto the field and performs instrument counts as needed.
• Operates and troubleshoots video systems and collaborates with team to maintain equipment.
• Ensures quality measures such as SCIP core measures are met.
