Job summary

Virginia Mason Franciscan Health in Washington state is seeking a Surgical Technologist to join the operating room team and support safe, efficient procedures critical to patient outcomes.

You will prep the OR (instruments, equipment, supplies), pass instruments for surgeons, maintain a sterile field, count items, assist with patient positioning, and adhere to aseptic technique with meticulous attention to detail and clear communication.

Qualifications

• Completion of an accredited Surgical Technologist program.
• Current Washington state registration as a Surgical Technician.
• Current healthcare provider BLS Certification.
• A high school diploma or GED.
• Ability to take night and/or weekend call.
• Knowledge of anatomy and physiology, and pharmacology and medical terminology.
• Understanding of instrumentation and equipment, and skill in establishing and maintaining a sterile field and in draping a patient.
• Excellent communication skills a must.
• Ability to act as a member of the team and to anticipate the needs of a surgeon and patient.
• Must be able to operate effectively in emergency and stressful situations.
• Ability to independently lift up to 20 pounds, grasping and manual dexterity required to hand and/or finger items frequently.
• Must be able to maintain a retracted position for up to one (1) hour.
• Clear visual and auditory acuity with or without accommodation.
• Extensive walking, sitting, standing, lifting, stretching, and bending required.
• Ability to move equipment using a wheeled cart.

Responsibilities

• Prepare the OR (instruments, equipment, supplies) daily.
• Assist surgeons/nurses by counting, passing instruments and maintaining sterile field.
• Handle specimens and assist with patient positioning.
• Adhere to aseptic technique at all times.
• Communicate effectively in fast-paced environment.
• Support the surgical team to ensure patient safety.
