Job summary

Bridgeport Hospital, part of Yale New Haven Health, is seeking a Surgical Technologist to join the operating room team. The role involves preparing the OR, instruments, and supplies; assisting surgeons, anesthesiologists, and nurses; and supporting the sterile technique and asepsis required for safe patient care.

This position requires graduation from a CAAHEP-accredited program, and certification within one year of employment; prior experience is valued but mentorship is provided to develop

Qualifications

• Graduate of a CAAHEP-accredited surgical technology program.
• Completion of Bridgeport Hospital's structured on-the-job training program may be accepted.
• Certification must be obtained within 1 year of employment.

Responsibilities

• Prepare the operating room, instruments, equipment and supplies for procedures.
• Position and prepare patients for surgery.
• Pass instruments, sponges and sutures to the surgeon.
• Assist the scrub person and circulating staff during procedures.
• Report procedure status to the relief team.
• Maintain asepsis and disinfection in the care environment.
• Follow sterile technique according to OR standards.
• Complete non-therapeutic functions under physician or RN direction.
