Position Details

• Schedule: Full time, day shift, working Monday - Friday from 6:30am - 3:00pm, with rotating night, weekend, and holiday call requirements
• Hospital: Ascension Via Christi, St Francis
• Location: Wichita, KS

Responsibilities

1. Provide direct assistance to surgeons during surgical procedures.
2. Position patient for optimal surgical exposure, ensuring safety and comfort.
3. Assist with visualization of the operative site, tissue manipulation, retraction, sponging, suctioning, and irrigation.
4. Use appropriate techniques to achieve hemostasis.
5. Assist with wound closure, dressing application, and drainage system securing.
6. Participate in OR cleanup and case cart removal post-surgery.
7. Prepare the surgical suite according to surgeon’s preference, with proper instruments and supplies.

Minimum Requirements

• Licensure / Certification / Registration:
  • BLS Provider certification within 1 month of hire (American Heart Association or Red Cross accepted)
  • Surgical Assistant credential from NBSTSA
• Education:
  • High School diploma with 2 years of experience, or
  • Associate's/Technical degree, or
  • 4 years of relevant experience

Preferred Qualifications

• Peripheral Vascular assisting experience (preferred)
