Job summary

St. Charles Health System in Oregon seeks a Certified Surgical Tech (CST) to join the Surgical Services Perioperative Team. The CST provides scrub and/or second assist duties within the scope of practice, maintaining sterile technique and contributing to a safe patient environment.

Required: graduates of CAAHEP/ABHES accredited programs or military CT programs, and NBSTSA or NCCT certification with BLS. Preferred: 1 year in a high-volume OR.

Qualifications

• Graduate of a CAAHEP- or ABHES-accredited surgical technology program.
• Military surgical technologist program or combination of education and experience acceptable.

Responsibilities

• Functions as a CST member of the Surgical Services Perioperative team to ensure safe, efficient patient care.
• Prepares the operating room and equipment; drapes and arranges supplies for cases; assists with setup and instrument handling.
• Maintains sterile technique and follows aseptic practice per SCHS policies and AORN/AST standards.
• Performs counts of sponges, sharps and instruments; participates in pre-brief, time-out and debrief.
• Assists with patient positioning and gowning/gloving of the surgical team; helps prepare sterile field.
• Delivers instruments and supplies to surgeons; prepares dressings and maintains sterile technique.
• Participates in room turnover and post-case decontamination per policy; supports safe environment for staff and patients.
• Acts as Second Assist Technologist when needed: holds retractors and assists with suction.
