Department Overview
The pediatric cardiovascular program at Children's Minnesota is among the largest in the region, with a history of over 11,000 heart surgeries since 1977. The team includes cardiac surgeons, physician assistants, interventional cardiologists, and electrophysiologists performing over 420 surgeries and 400 catheterization procedures annually for patients from infants to young adults with heart defects. The cardiovascular care center features a 25-bed ICU, operating rooms, a hybrid OR, a remodeled biplane catheterization lab, and dedicated pre- and post-operative units. In 2018, the program expanded to include heart failure and transplant services, providing specialized care close to home with a focus on teamwork, safety, and professional growth.
Position Summary
The Surgical Technologist is a vital member of the patient care team, providing skilled intra-operative technical support during surgeries. Responsibilities include assisting surgeons, preparing and maintaining sterile fields, and specializing in areas such as cardiac or neurological surgery. The role involves functioning as a call team member for emergencies, operating as the sterile team member, and ensuring aseptic technique. The technologist applies knowledge of anatomy, physiology, and pharmacology to optimize patient outcomes and minimize surgical time.
The salary range is competitive, based on market data and individual qualifications, including skills, education, and experience. Benefits include medical, dental, vision, retirement, and more.
