Job summary

Hartford Hospital is seeking a Surgical Technologist to join our dynamic team. You will ensure proper setup of sterile instruments, assist surgeons during procedures, and prepare the operating room before and after operations.

This role requires certification and strong teamwork in a fast-paced environment. We offer a sign-on bonus up to $15,000, competitive wages, tuition reimbursement, and a comprehensive benefits package.

Qualifications

• Completion of a CAAHEP accredited Surgical Technology Program.
• Maintain CPR/BLS validation and attend annual Validation Day.
• Hold NBSTA certification within one year of employment or obtain it promptly.
• Knowledge of surgical procedures and instrument handling.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills are essential.
• Adherence to sterile technique and infection control policies.

Responsibilities

• This role delivers service and support before, during, and after surgical procedures.
• Ensures proper arrangement and presence of surgical equipment and supplies in the operating room.
• Assists the surgeon during procedures as allowed by standards and training.
• Assists with cleaning the operating room after surgery and equipment routing.

The Surgical Technologist provides service and support before, during, and after surgical procedures. Ensures the presence and proper arrangement of surgical equipment and supplies in the operating room to each operation; assists the surgeon during the operation as allowed by professional and legal standards; and assists with cleaning operating room after the operation ensuring proper routing of equipment, and used material. Reports to Manager.

Qualifications

• Completion of a Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Programs (CAAHEP) accredited Surgical Technology Program.
• Must be certified through the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTA) or able to obtain NBSTA certification within one year of employment.
• Maintenance of CPR, BLS validation and attendance of annual Validation Day required.
• Knowledge of various surgical procedures with the ability to anticipate the needs of the surgeon and to recognize the problems encountered by the surgeon.
• Knowledge of name and function of surgical equipment and instrumentation required.
• Excellent interpersonal/communication skills.
• Strict adherence to policies and regulations regarding maintenance of sterile field required.
• Knowledge and practice of basic care and patient safety concepts.
• Application of the principles of asepsis in a manner that provides optimal patient care.
• Knowledge of OR emergency situations.
