Job summary

UAB Medicine's Cardiac Cath Lab at UAB St. Vincent's Birmingham provides expert cardiac care in an outpatient setting, using cutting-edge technology across three cath labs and two non-invasive labs.

The surgical technologist will support a multidisciplinary team in a fast-paced environment delivering diagnostic and interventional procedures such as heart catheterization and PCI, with IVUS/OCT imaging and FFR/iFR functional assessments.

Qualifications

• BLS Provider preferred. American Heart Association or American Red Cross accepted.
• Education: High school diploma equivalency AND completion of a surgical technologist program with a clinical component OR a minimum of 4 years of applicable cumulative job-specific experience required.
• Associate's degree or technical degree preferred.
• Minimum of 1 year neuro or cardiac experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Prepare surgical operating suite with sterile and non-sterile instruments and supplies.
• Hand required and requested instruments and supplies to surgeon during surgery.
• Assist with preparing, transporting, positioning and draping patients.
• Maintain instruments in an organized manner and monitor and track instruments counts throughout procedures.
• Assist surgeons provision of hemostasis during surgery.

Education

High school diploma equivalency + surgical technologist program

Associate's degree or technical degree preferred

Minimum of 1 year neuro or cardiac experience preferred
