Job summary

UPMC Passavant is seeking a Casual Surgical Technologist to support the Operating Room at the McCandless location. Entry to mid-level opportunity with compensation based on education and experience.

The role involves assisting in the OR, preparing instruments, passing tools to surgeons, and ensuring aseptic technique. Responsibilities include patient preparation, specimen handling, and room turnover, with attention to safety and compliance with state certifications and hospital policies.

Qualifications

• Must have CST or equivalent certification.
• BLS/CPR certification required.
• Pennsylvania Act 31/33/34/73 clearances with renewal.
• Professional certification grandfathering and six-month certification window for new grads.

Responsibilities

• Prepare OR by setting up instruments, drapes, and solutions; assemble sterile and non-sterile equipment.
• Pass instruments to surgeons and assistants during procedures; assist with sutures, sponges, and counts.
• Prepare, care for, and dispose of specimens; apply dressings; assist with sterile gown/glove procedures.
• Transport patients to the OR when needed and help position them; maintain aseptic technique.
• Restock and clean the operating room; ensure a safe environment and proper patient preparation.
