UPMC Hamot's Cardiovascular Operating Room is searching for a Surgical Technologist to add to their team!

The CVOR Team covers Cardiac, Thoracic, and Vascular cases in the Operating Room and collaborates with the main OR Team to maintain staffing levels. OR experience is required. This position works Monday through Friday from 6 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., with shared call hours during off shifts and weekends.

Job title and salary will be determined based on qualifications and career ladder requirements.

The Surgical Technologist will:

1. Perform tasks that assist the surgical team in the operating room.
2. Arrange sterile setups for procedures, pass instruments, sponges, and sutures, prepare supplies, assist in cleanup, check equipment, and restock the operating room.
3. Handle special trays, graft materials, and record patient data during procedures.

Responsibilities:

1. Ensure medications are labeled and handed to the surgeon per policies.
2. Prepare the operating room before surgeries, including setting up instruments, equipment, and supplies, and checking functionality.
3. Pass instruments and supplies efficiently during surgery, hold retractors, cut sutures, sponge or suction as needed, and assist with counting supplies.
4. Assist with specimen handling and apply dressings.
5. Help surgical team with sterile gowning and gloving.
6. Post-surgery, assist with patient transfer, clean, and restock the OR.
7. Prepare patients for surgery, including washing, shaving, and positioning.
8. Maintain a safe and sterile environment, alert to hazards and aseptic techniques.
