Job summary

Legacy Health is seeking a Surgical Technologist for Legacy Good Samaritan Medical Center in Northwest Portland. This full-time role involves supporting the surgical team, passing instruments with precision, and helping prepare surgical suites while maintaining sterile technique.

Relocation assistance is available for new Legacy teammates. The position requires CST certification eligibility in Oregon and may include flexible shifts to meet patient care needs.

Qualifications

  • Graduation from an accredited Surgical Technologist program or completion of a military training program for surgical technologists.
  • High school diploma or equivalent with alternative experience accepted if appropriate milestones met.
  • Oregon/Washington certification requirements and pathways are described for licensure and practice.

Responsibilities

  • Assist surgical team by passing instruments and supplies with precision.
  • Support in acquiring, preparing and equipping surgical suites.
  • Participate in maintaining sterile technique and cleanliness of the field.
  • Support non-surgical patient interventions under physician or RN supervision.
  • Collaborate with nursing staff to ensure safe and efficient patient care.

Legacy Good Samaritan Medical Center in Northwest Portland is known for its specialty programs and clinical excellence. Legacy Good Samaritan features nationally renowned doctors in cancer care, kidney transplantations, neurology, ophthalmology, weight-loss surgery, robotic surgery, rehabilitation and more.

Responsibilities
  • Participates as part of the surgical team in assisting nursing staff in support services necessary for safe and efficient care of patients within the various areas of surgical services.
  • Assist at the surgical field passing instruments and supplies to other members of the surgical team.
  • Participates in acquiring, preparing and equipping the surgical suites.
  • Assists in non-surgical patient intervention under the direct supervision of a physician or RN.
  • May serve as a Core Technician, with responsibility for maintaining sterile technique and providing supplies and instruments as requested.
Qualifications

Experience:

  • 1 year Surgical Technologist experience preferred.

Education:

  • Graduation from an accredited Surgical Technologist program or completion of a military training program for surgical technologists.

OR

  • High school diploma or equivalent, and
  • As of January 1, 2017, in lieu of the formal Surg Tech training program requirement, may substitute professional experience if candidate has worked 2 out of last 3 years as Surgical Technologist.

Skills:

  • Basic level patient care skills per requirements of the position.
  • Basic medical terminology.
  • Keyboard skills and ability to navigate electronic systems applicable to job functions.
  • Ability to understand and apply principles of sterile technique and surgical procedures within the scope of the position
  • Able to work in a fast paced environment and prioritize multiple assignments.
  • Flexibility and willingness to adapt to a changing environment and circumstances.
Licensure

All employees:

  • American Heart Association approved BLS certification required at hire.

Oregon Employees:

  • Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) certification with the State of Oregon at hire, or within 12 months of graduation from an accredited Surgical Technologist program, required.
    • The certification requirementwill be waived for candidates who have completed an appropriatetraining program ina branch of theUnited StatesArmed Forces ortheCommissionedCorps of the U.S.Public HealthService.
    • The certification requirement will be waived for candidates who workedas asurgical technologistin an ambulatory surgery center (ASC), hospitalor federalgovernment agencybetween January 1,2014 through January 1, 2017; provided that, the candidate has worked 2 out of the last 3 years as surgical technologist.

Washington Employees:

  • Registration as a Registered Surgical Technologist (RST) with the State of Washington required at hire.
Pay Range
USD $34.60 - USD $49.48 /Hr.
