Owensboro Health Regional Hospital in Owensboro, KY, is seeking a Surgical Technologist to assist physicians in procedural areas, including invasive and non-invasive techniques. The role supports the operating room team in sterile technique and instrument handling.

The position requires a high school diploma or GED, CST/TS-C and BLS certifications within 90 days, and the ability to work in a high-stress surgical environment. 80 hours per pay period; full-time, 1.0 FTE.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

  • Prepare surgical operating suite with drapes, instruments, solutions, equipment and supplies and ensure good working order.
  • Assist with preparing, transporting, positioning, and draping patients.
  • Provide continuous surveillance and maintenance of sterile field.
  • Pass instruments to physician during surgery.
  • Account for number and location of instruments and supplies during surgery.
  • Receive specimens for delivery for appropriate testing.
  • Assist with application of wound dressings and securing of drainage system.
  • Provide visualization of operative site using retraction, suction, and irrigation.

Job Summary:

Provides assistance to physician and facilitates in procedural areas which includes invasive and non-invasive techniques.

Job Responsibilities:
  • Prepares surgical operating suite with drapes, solutions, instruments, equipment, and supplies. Ensures good working order of equipment and instruments.

  • Assists with preparing, transporting, positioning, and draping patients.

  • Provides continuous surveillance and maintenance of sterile field.

  • Passes instruments to physician during surgery.

  • Continually accounts for number and location of instruments and supplies during surgery.

  • Receives specimens for delivery for appropriate testing.

  • Assists with application of wound dressings and securing of drainage system.

  • Provides visualization of the operative site using appropriate method, retraction, sponging, suctioning, and irrigation.

  • Works under minimal supervision.

  • Must be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action.

  • High school diploma, General Equivalency Diploma (GED) or higher required upon hire
Licensure/Certification/Registration
  • CST - Certified Surgical Technologist through the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA) required within 90 days of employment in this position OR

  • TS-C - Tech in Surgery-Certified through National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT) required within 90 days of employment in this position AND

  • BLS - Certified as a Basic Life Support Healthcare Provider required within 90 days of employment in this position
