Job summary

Owensboro Health Regional Hospital in Owensboro, KY is seeking a Certified Surgical Assistant to provide direct physician support in procedural areas, including invasive and non-invasive techniques, and to ensure patient safety.

This full-time role requires a high school diploma or GED, CSA/NCCSA or CSFA NBSTSA certification upon hire, BLS within 90 days, and at least 2 years’ relevant experience; weekend as-needed coverage and 9am-9:30pm shifts are described in the posting.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Provide visualization of the operative site and assist with tissue manipulation, retraction, suctioning, and irrigation.
• Assist with hemostasis using approved techniques.
• Assist with wound closure, dressings, and drainage systems.
• Position patient using stabilizing equipment while ensuring safety and comfort.
• Perform duties in accordance with state practice standards.

Weekend Requirements: As Needed | Work Hours: 9a-930p | Status: Full Time - 1.0 FTE (80 hours per pay period) | Entity: Owensboro Health Regional Hospital | Department: Surgery

Job Summary:

Provides direct assistance to physician in procedural areas including invasive and non-invasive techniques.

Job Responsibilities:

• Provides visualization of the operative site using appropriate method, including manipulation of tissue and materials, retraction, sponging, suctioning, and irrigation.

• Utilizes appropriate technique to achieve temporary and permanent hemostasis.

• Assists with body plane closure, application of wound dressings, and securing of drainage systems.

• Assists with positioning of patient utilizing stabilizing equipment when necessary, while maximizing patient comfort and safety.

• Performs job duties in accordance with guidelines and professional standards outlined by the state practice standards for the profession.

Position Requirements:

Work Experience

• A minimum of 2 years’ relevant experience as determined by the organization preferred.

Education

• High school diploma, General Equivalency Diploma (GED) or higher required upon hire

Licensure/Certification/Registration

• CSA - Certified Surgical Assistant through the National Commission on Certification of Surgical Assistants (NCCSA) required upon hire OR

• CSA - Certified Surgical Assistant through the the National Surgical Assistant Association (NSAA) required upon hire OR

• CSFA - Certified Surgical First Assistant through the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA) required upon hire AND

• BLS - Certified as a Basic Life Support Healthcare Provider required within 90 days of employment in this position
