Job summary

Barnes-Jewish Hospital, part of BJC HealthCare, seeks a Surgical Technician to join the perioperative team. Under RN supervision, you will assist with operating room setup, sterile technique, and specimen handling in a fast-paced environment.

Minimum requirements include a High School Diploma or GED and less than 2 years of related experience; certification as a Surgical Technician is preferred. Day and night shifts may be available at multiple Missouri locations.

Qualifications

• Education: High School Diploma or GED.
• Experience: <2 years or military equivalent experience.
• Licenses & Certifications: Surgical Technician.

Responsibilities

• Prepares OR for procedures, reviews surgeon needs, gathers supplies, ensures room cleanliness, opens sterile items.
• Performs surgical scrub duties and assists with cultures and specimens.
• Turns over the room and returns instruments and equipment.

Preferred Qualifications

Role Purpose

Performs surgical duties for operating room procedures under the direct supervision of a registered nurse.

Responsibilities

• Prepares operating room for surgical patient, reviews preference cards to determine surgeon needs, obtains the necessary supplies and equipment for the procedure, ensures cleanliness of room, and assists with opening sterile supplies.
• Performs surgical scrub duties, and assists with the collection, identification, and disposition of cultures and specimens.
• Assists in turning over of room, and ensures supplies, instruments, and equipment are returned to proper location.

• Education: High School Diploma or GED

• <2 years or military equivalent experience
