Job summary

Medford Surgery Center, LLC is seeking an organized Surgical Technologist to prepare the OR, set up instruments, and ensure sterile technique throughout procedures. You will anticipate surgeon needs, manage instrument counts, and maintain a safe patient environment during operations.

Qualifications include completion of an accredited surgical technology program, CST certification within 12 months, and experience scrubbing in diverse surgeries.

Job Summary

The Surgical Technologist prepares the operating room by sterilizing and setting up necessary equipment for the procedure. Responsible for assembling all equipment and ensuring it functions properly. The Surgical Technician handles instruments, supplies, and equipment necessary during the surgical procedure. The Surgical Technician has an understanding of the procedure being performed and anticipates the needs of the surgeon. The Surgical Technician has the necessary knowledge and ability to ensure quality patient care during the operative procedure and is vigilant in the maintenance of the sterile field. He/she will perform other related duties as needed to maintain department cost containment, efficiency, as well as quality performance.

What You Will Do

• Actively work to promote and maintain an organizational culture that enhances our standing as the best place to work and receive care.
• Engage in staff meetings, department meetings, in‑services, educational requirements, and other professional development opportunities.
• Select and check case carts and preference cards for correct instrument pans, packs, sterile supplies, and additional items needed for the case to facilitate timely procedure start times and efficient procedure progress.
• Anticipate the need for special equipment and supplies before the procedure and request them from the circulating nurse.
• Check that instruments and equipment are in safe working order.
• Demonstrate knowledge of the care and handling of instruments, supplies, and equipment.
• Prepare and maintain a safe patient care environment within the OR suite.
• Maintain the integrity of all sterile goods by close observation of sterile conscience, monitoring of packaging and handling.
• Anticipate the needs of the surgeon by passing instruments and supplies during the procedure, while preparing for additional instrumentation, equipment, and supply needs throughout the procedure.
• Maintain the highest standard of sterile technique during the procedure.
• Handle medications, hemostatic agents, and irrigation solutions as dispensed to the sterile field by a Registered Nurse for surgeon use.
• Demonstrate knowledge of The Surgery Center’s current policies and procedures.
• Perform initial and closing counts on instruments, sharps, and sponges. Per The Surgery Center’s policy and procedure, perform additional counts as needed.
• Prepare and hand off specimens carefully to the circulating nurse, without compromising staff safety or labeling accuracy.
• Identify, select, and perform correct decontamination, cleaning, and sterilization method for equipment and instrumentation for various surgical procedures.
• At the end of cases, clean and prepare instruments for terminal sterilization.
• Assist with stripping, cleaning, and setting up the OR suite for own or other’s cases with efficiency and speed.
• Assist with OR flow as required.
• Assist in the maintenance of equipment and instrumentation to facilitate durability and availability for future procedures.
• Contribute to meeting fluctuating staffing needs of the department by demonstrating flexibility in own assignment and work schedule.
• Demonstrate initiative and collaborate professionally with caregivers in/out of the OR suite.
• Promote teamwork by assisting with the precepting of new caregivers.
• Identify areas of conflict, intervene effectively, or seek assistance in conflict resolution.

What you need

• Completion of an accredited surgical technician program or equivalent from an accredited school.
• Certification (CST) required within 1 year of program completion.
• Mass experience prior to July 2013.

Education and Experience Qualifications

• Minimum of one (1) year work experience as a surgical technician.
• Experience in Ambulatory Surgery or Outpatient Surgery preferred.
• Experience scrubbing in on a variety of cases (orthopedic, plastics, general, and urology) preferred.
• Experience in Sterile Processing Department preferred.
• Great team player, strong attention to detail, organizational skills, ability to remain calm under pressure, strong communication skills, inherent desire to go above and beyond.

Certifications

• Currently holds American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support for Healthcare Provider (BLS) or an AHA‑approved equivalent, or obtains it within three (3) months of hire.

Additional Job Description

• The pay range for this position is $27‑$48/hr plus benefits. Individual pay is based on skills, experience, and other relevant factors.
• The incumbent will perform work of a lower or equivalent classification as required or directed, and work of higher classification for training and development purposes or as situationally warranted.
