The Helen DeVos Children's Surgery department completes over 8,000 cases per year. It has 8 operating rooms, including one with a fully integrated iMRI suite. HDVCH surgery is verified as a Level 1 Children's Surgery site through the American College of Surgeons. Our unit is staffed 24/7 with RN’s and Surgical Technologists. Our physician teams consist of all pediatric certified Surgeons and Anesthesiologists. Helen DeVos OR supports a wide range of specialties including ENT, General Surgery, Urology, Robotics, Plastics, Orthopedics/Orthospine, Cardiac, Dental, Burn, Ophthalmology, and Neurosurgery.

About This Unit

The scope of work for the Surgical Technologist includes preparing the surgical suite, intraoperative handling of instruments, maintaining the sterile field, and evaluating changing conditions during procedures, responding appropriately as needed. The role requires maintaining knowledge of surgical procedures and principles, with the potential to serve as a Preceptor.

Qualifications

• Associate's Degree or equivalent required
• Successful completion of an accredited Surgical Technology program; note not all programs involve an Associate's degree
• Surgical Technologist experience preferred (clinical rotations count)
• AHA or ARC Basic Life Support (BLS) certification within 90 days of hire required
