Job summary

Henry Ford Health in Dearborn, MI is seeking a Surgical Technologist to support the operating room across general to moderately complex procedures. You will handle instruments, supplies, and assist the surgical team to ensure patient safety and comfort.

Day shift, five shifts per two-week period (6:30am–3:00pm) with no weekends, holidays, or on-call, and the department is Surgery. High school/GED required; completion of a Surgical Technology program or military patient care training is expected.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Graduate of Surgical Technology program or military patient care training.
• Knowledge of OR procedures and surgical techniques.
• Current BLS certification required or obtained within 1 month of start date.
• Surgical Technologist certification preferred.
• Experience scrubbing GYN, Orthopedics, ENT, General, Plastics, Urology, Ophthalmology preferred.

Responsibilities

• Handle surgical instruments, supplies, and equipment for procedures.
• Anticipate surgeon and team needs during operations.
• Assist with patient preparation and transport.
• Support the surgical team with patient care duties to ensure safety and comfort.
• Respond to emergent situations per procedures.

Job Description

• Schedule: Five shifts per 2-week period, Day shift, 6:30am - 3:00pm, NO weekends/holidays/call

Under direction and supervision of the Registered Nurse and Surgical Team members, responsible for the handling of surgical instruments, supplies and equipment necessary during general to moderately complex surgical procedures. Ensures understanding of the assigned surgical procedures being performed and anticipates the needs of the assigned surgeon and surgical team members. Also provides service support related to patient preparation, patient transport, and assisting surgical care team with specific patient care duties to meet safety and comfort needs. Responds to emergent situations according to established procedures.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or G.E.D. equivalent required.
• Graduate of a Surgical Technology program or six (6) months specialized patient care training in the armed forces required.
• Specific knowledge of surgical procedures within the operating room (OR), in addition to knowledge of surgical procedures, practices and techniques in providing patient care and assisting surgeons in the O.R.
• Current BLS certification required or become BLS certified within one month of start date.
• Surgical Technologist certification preferred but not required.
• Previous experience in scrubbing GYN, Ortho foot/ hand, ENT, General, Plastics, Urology and Ophthalmology preferred
