Job summary

Henry Ford Health in Michigan seeks a Surgical Technologist to support the operating room team, handle instruments, and assist surgeons during general to moderately complex procedures.

Required: high school diploma or GED, graduate of Surgical Technology program, BLS certification, and either CST certification or 3-5 years of high-acuity OR support. Eligible for sign-on bonus of $9,000.

  • Handle surgical instruments, supplies and equipment for general to moderately complex procedures and anticipate surgeon needs.
  • Assist surgical team with patient preparation and transport, and provide care duties to meet safety and comfort needs.
  • Respond to emergent situations according to established procedures.
  • Support the OR team to ensure smooth, efficient surgical flow.

Job Description

GENERAL SUMMARY:

Under direction and supervision of the Registered Nurse and Surgical Team members, responsible for the handling of surgical instruments, supplies and equipment necessary during general to moderately complex surgical procedures. Ensures understanding of the assigned surgical procedures being performed and anticipates the needs of the assigned surgeon and surgical team members. Also provides service support related to patient preparation, patient transport, and assisting surgical care team with specific patient care duties to meet safety and comfort needs. Responds to emergent situations according to established procedures.

Qualifications

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

  • High school diploma or G.E.D. equivalent required.
  • Graduate of a Surgical Technology program.
  • Specific knowledge of surgical procedures within the operating room (OR), in addition to knowledge of surgical procedures, practices and techniques in providing patient care and assisting surgeons in the O.R.

CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSURES REQUIRED:

  • Current BLS certification required or become BLS certified within one month of start date.
  • Surgical Technologist certification required or 3-5 years of experience supporting complex high acuity surgical volume, as defined above, in lieu of a certification.
