Job summary

Henry Ford Health is seeking a Surgical Technologist to assist the operating room team with instruments, supplies and equipment during general to moderately complex procedures. The role supports patient preparation and transport, reinforces safety, and responds to emergent situations under supervision, aligning with our mission to deliver exceptional care.

You will work closely with the surgical team to ensure proper sterilization, instrument counts, and sterile technique throughout procedures.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent required.
  • Graduate of a Surgical Technology program or six months specialized patient care training in the armed forces required.
  • Knowledge of surgical procedures and operating room practices; ability to assist surgeons in the OR.

Responsibilities

  • Handle surgical instruments, supplies and equipment during general to moderately complex procedures.
  • Anticipate needs of the assigned surgeon and surgical team members.
  • Assist with patient preparation, patient transport, and safety; respond to emergent situations per procedures.

Job Description

GENERAL SUMMARY:


Under direction and supervision of the Registered Nurse and Surgical Team members, responsible for the handling of surgical instruments, supplies and equipment necessary during general to moderately complex surgical procedures. Ensures understanding of the assigned surgical procedures being performed and anticipates the needs of the assigned surgeon and surgical team members. Also provides service support related to patient preparation, patient transport, and assisting surgical care team with specific patient care duties to meet safety and comfort needs. Responds to emergent situations according to established procedures.


Qualifications

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:



  • High school diploma or G.E.D. equivalent required.

  • Graduate of a Surgical Technology program or six (6) months specialized patient care training in the armed forces required.

  • Specific knowledge of surgical procedures within the operating room (OR), in addition to knowledge of surgical procedures, practices and techniques in providing patient care and assisting surgeons in the O.R.


CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSURES REQUIRED:



  • Current BLS certification required or become BLS certified within one month of start date.

  • Surgical Technologist certification preferred but not required.
