Job description

Townsen Memorial is looking for a Full Time Surgical Technologist in our NEW hospital located at our West location in Bellaire TX!

SUMMARY:

The Surgical Technologist is responsible for scrubbing in and assisting the physician for all cases. After each case, the technologist will be on standby for sterile processing needs, including decontamination, preparation, packaging, sterilization, and storage, following department policies and procedures.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  1. Work with surgical instrumentation, troubleshoot, and repair as needed.
  2. Communicate effectively with team members and other departments.
  3. Manage inventory, including stock levels for stored instrumentation and emergency carts.
  4. Follow manufacturer instructions for disassembly, decontamination, disinfection, and sterilization of instruments and equipment.
  5. Use count sheets to assemble, protect, wrap, and label instruments.
  6. Prepare and deliver carts with instrumentation to the operating room.
  7. Conduct rounds in the OR to ensure instrumentation needs are met.
  8. Facilitate room turnovers, handle waste, linens, and biohazardous materials properly.
  9. Follow sterilization guidelines and verify sterilization efficacy through documentation and biological testing.
  10. Track instrumentation utilization using the tracking system.
  11. Ensure sterile products are stored correctly and inspect instruments for cleanliness and functionality.
  12. Prepare instrumentation for sterilization.
  13. Organize workflow, solve problems, and manage multiple priorities with minimal supervision.
  14. Participate in staff meetings, training, and provide guidance to others.
  15. Maintain patient confidentiality and privacy rights.
  16. Maintain a safe, clean, and organized work environment.
  17. Keep professional certifications current.
  18. Perform other related duties as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

  • Knowledge of medical terminology.
  • Strong sterile technique skills related to OR procedures.
  • Proficiency in surgical technology and operating equipment.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Graduate from an accredited surgical technology program.
  • Certification as a Surgical Technologist by NBSTSA or NCCT, or completion of an approved military or U.S. Public Health Service training program.
  • At least 2 years of surgical technology experience in a healthcare setting.
