Job summary

Leigh Orthopedic Surgery Center in the Virginia Beach/Norfolk area is seeking an experienced Surgical Technician to join a profitable ASC team. The role involves working with surgeons and OR staff to ensure patient care before, during, and after surgery.

The Certified Surgical Scrub Technician will assemble supplies, maintain sterile technique, and update instrument cards per physician preferences. CPR is required; NBSTSA certification preferred; compensation starts at $27.00 per hour.

Qualifications

• CPR certification is required.
• NBSTSA certification or equivalent is strongly preferred.
• Orthopedic service line experience preferred.
• Sports Medicine experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Demonstrates knowledge of surgical procedures and the scrub tech role in performing these procedures.
• Demonstrates knowledge of equipment and its use in the surgical environment
• Demonstrates knowledge of a surgical scrub technician's duties before, during and after the surgical case
• Assembles supplies, equipment, instruments, and all necessary items for scheduled surgical procedures in accordance with physicians' preference cards.
• Attends all required safety training programs and describes responsibilities related to general safety and hazards.
• Correctly uses, cares for, cleans, and sterilizes instruments, supplies and equipment as directed.
• Maintains adequate supplies in the operating room for access during procedures and stores stocking supplies as directed.
• Maintains and updates instrument cards / tray lists and surgeons' preference cards regularly
• Follows exposure control plans and bloodborne and airborne pathogen procedures.
• Reports observed or suspected breaks in sterile technique and acts according to policy
• Demonstrates respect and professionalism toward patients and staff
• Promotes effective working relations within teams to meet goals
• Maintains documentation related to sterilization records and cleaning forms
• Assumes all other duties as assigned.

Education

High school diploma or GED

One-year certificate from college or technical school

CPR certification

NBSTSA certified Surgical Technician or other equivalent certification

Orthopedic service line experience preferred

Sports Medicine experience preferred

Summary

The Certified Surgical Scrub Technician is a member of the surgical team who works with surgeons, anesthesia personnel, RNs, and other surgical personnel in delivering patient care and assuming appropriate responsibilities before, during and after surgery procedures.

Duties Include, But Are Not Limited To

• Demonstrates knowledge of surgical procedures and the scrub tech role in performing these procedures.
• Demonstrates knowledge of equipment and its use in the surgical environment
• Demonstrates knowledge of a surgical scrub technician's duties before, during and after the surgical case
• Assembles supplies, equipment, instruments, and all necessary items for scheduled surgical procedures in accordance with physicians' preference cards.
• Attends all required safety training programs and can describe his or her responsibilities related to general safety, center/service safety, and specific job related hazards.
• Correctly uses, cares for, cleans, and sterilizes instruments, supplies and equipment as directed.
• Assists in maintaining adequate supplies in the operating room for immediate access during the procedure as well as storing and stocking supplies as directed
• Maintains and updates instruments cards / tray lists and surgeons' preference cards regularly
• Follows the center exposure control plans/blood borne and airborne pathogens.
• Reports observed or suspected breaks in sterile technique and acts according to policy
• Demonstrates respect and regard for the dignity of all patients, families, visitors, and fellow employees to ensure a professional, responsible, and courteous environment.
• Promotes effective working relations and works effectively as part of a center/unit team inter- and intra-center to facilitate the center's ability to meet its goals and objectives.
• Maintains accurate documentation related to all sterilization records, cleaning forms, logs, and the like
• Assumes all other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or general equivalency degree (GED)
• One-year certificate from college or technical school; or one year of related experience and / or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience
• CPR certification required
• NBSTSA certified Surgical Technician or other equivalent certification strongly preferred
• Orthopedic service line experience preferred
• Sports Medicine experience preferred

No "call", no weekends or holidays. Relocation assistance is not available.

Compensation

Hourly pay starts at $27.00, and the final offer will reflect your experience, skills, and qualifications.
