Information Regarding the Salary Placement Process:

LBCC is committed to the principles of Oregon Pay Equity. Faculty starting salaries are placed on a range determined by the Faculty Collective Bargaining Agreement, and dependent on experience. Progression on the salary schedule is subject to the terms and conditions laid out in the Faculty Collective Bargaining Agreement. Click here to view the current agreement.

The 2024-25 starting salary range for this position is $65,414 – $75,065 for a 168-day schedule. The 2025-26 salary schedule and academic calendar has yet to be determined. All faculty new to the college will receive an additional 3 days to attend Fall Term Instructional Strategies Institute training.

If you are the successful candidate for the Surgical Technician and Technologist Instructor position, you will be given the opportunity to present a “Curriculum Vitae” or “Long-Form” resume. Details from this resume will be used to perform a salary regression analysis. Based on the direct and/or indirect experience provided, the salary regression analysis will be calculated to place you in relation to others at the college with a similar level of experience and responsibility.

It is vital that on the long-form resume you include dates for each position held in a “MM/YYYY – MM/YYYY” format, and include whether positions were at a full-time or part-time appointment. If the position was a part-time appointment, please indicate the number of hours worked on average each week.

Job Summary:

The faculty member teaches surgical technology courses within the Surgical Technology program which is a year-round program. The faculty member may also be assigned to teach a range of subjects, including but not limited to Perioperative Patient Care, A&P, Microbiology, and Surgical Procedures. The faculty member will collaborate with instructors, students, advisory committees, clinic site coordinators, public agencies and college staff to coordinate planning, development, promotion, delivery and evaluation of training programs.

Required Qualifications:

  • Be a graduate of an education program in surgical technology.
  • Three years experience in either the operating room scrub role or as an instructor in surgical technology, or a combination of both.
  • Credential in the field of surgical technology through a national certification program that is accredited by the National Commission on Certifying Agencies (NCCA) is required.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience in adult education learning theory and online education is preferred.
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:

Requires the ability to work with staff and students. Work is performed in an office or classroom setting with minimal exposure to safety or health hazards.

Responsibilities:
  • Promote excellence in instruction. Identify and meet the learning needs of students.
  • Revise and update approved curriculum as needed. Develop course schedules and syllabi.
  • Identify and recommend textbooks, instructional materials, equipment and supplies needed for instruction.
  • Plan, develop and deliver course lectures and activities.
  • Plan, develop and deliver laboratory instruction, materials and procedures incorporating state-of-the-art industry practices.
  • Work effectively with students and staff of various cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds and ages. Successfully interact with supervisors, colleagues, and staff as part of an education team.
  • Communicate effectively in oral and written English.
  • Maintain accurate grade and attendance records in the Learning Management System (LMS).
  • Oversee clinical site relationship development, student placements, and practicum observations.
  • Maintain current knowledge of the professional discipline and educational methodologies through continued professional development.
  • Collaborate with the dean, faculty and staff to realize progress toward the college’s strategic goals.
