Job summary

Yale New Haven Health is seeking a Surgical Technologist to assist the Circulating Nurse by preparing supplies and equipment for the operating room. You will help maintain sterile fields and ensure accurate counts while supporting the surgical team.

Education from a CAAHEP accredited program is required with 1–2 years of experience preferred; certification must be obtained within 1 year if not already held. This role emphasizes teamwork and patient safety in a fast-paced perioperative setting.

Qualifications

• Education: Certificate through a CAAHEP accredited surgical technology program or equivalent.
• Experience: 1–2 years of experience and certification preferred.
• Licensure: Must obtain LCC-ST certification within 1 year if not certified.
• Special Skills: Knowledge of sterile/aseptic technique and human anatomy; ability to work in all surgical areas.
• Physical Demand: Standing majority of the day; ability to lift up to 36 pounds.

Responsibilities

• Assist Circulating Nurse in preparing supplies, instrumentation, and equipment for surgery.
• Maintain safety and sterility; properly handle and identify specimens.
• Restock supplies in assigned room and collaborate with team to stay fiscally responsible.
• Prepare operative site under RN direction and assist OR team; report procedure status.
• Demonstrate commitment to growth; attend in-services; keep policies up to date.
• Support teamwork, cooperation, and aseptic technique throughout procedures.
• Prepare and maintain sterile fields; verify counts; inspect equipment for sterility.
