Job summary

Yale New Haven Health is seeking a Surgical Technologist to support the operating room team. You will assist with sterile technique, prepare the operative field, and coordinate supplies under the supervision of a surgeon and Circulating Nurse.

The role emphasizes patient safety, teamwork, and adherence to aseptic standards. The position requires graduating from a CAAHEP-accredited program, 1–2 years of experience, and the ability to obtain LCC-ST certification within one year.

Qualifications

• Graduate of a CAAHEP accredited surgical technology program or equivalent per LCCST guidance.
• 1–2 years of experience and certification preferred.
• Must obtain LCC-ST certification within 1 year of employment if not already certified.
• Demonstrated knowledge of sterile/aseptic technique and anatomy across all surgical areas; follows practice standards.

Responsibilities

• Assist Circulating Nurse in preparing supplies, instrumentation and equipment for procedures.
• Maintain safety awareness for patient and equipment; identify specimens.
• Restock supplies in assigned rooms in a fiscally responsible manner.
• Prepare operative site and assist the surgical team; communicate procedure status.
• Pursue ongoing professional development, participate in in-services, maintain certifications.
• Demonstrate teamwork and cooperation in the operating room.
• Maintain sterile fields and asepsis; verify counts and inspect instruments and supplies.
• Apply sterile technique principles to each operative case.
