Job summary

MercyOne Northeast Iowa seeks a Surgical Technologist for the Waterloo area. The role supports sterile processing, instrument setup, and patient safety in the operating room across specialties.

You will work with the circulating nurse to prepare the OR, maintain sterility, and assist in patient transport and turnover. This full-time day shift requires teamwork, adaptability, and adherence to standards.

Qualifications

• Graduates of an accredited surgical technology program or equivalent training.
• LPN graduates with surgical experience or related competency are considered.
• CST certification preferred but not required in Iowa; required in Illinois.

Responsibilities

• Assist the circulating nurse in assessing patient needs and plan of care.
• Provide care to surgical patients according to standards and physician preferences.
• Set up rooms and ensure safe transport of patients when needed.
• Prepare the operative site, instrument cases, and maintain sterile field.
• Manage supplies and assist in turnover between cases.
• Operate under supervision of the circulating nurse and meet unit productivity expectations.
• Update surgeon preference cards and adapt to varied cases.
