Job summary

WH Wheeling Hospital Inc. in Wheeling, WV seeks an OR scrub professional to assist the surgical team during operative procedures. The role requires either an active LPN license with scrub experience or completion of a Surgical Technology Program with certification.

A Basic Life Support certification must be obtained within 30 days of hire. The position supports a 36-hour work week in a non-exempt status within the Nursing Operating Room.

Qualifications

• Must hold LPN licensure and have 2 years of scrub experience or have completed a Surgical Technology Program with certification.
• Basic Life Support certification within 30 days of hire.
• One year of Surgical Technology experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Maintains quality aseptic technique in the OR.
• Assists circulating RN to maintain sterile field.
• Performs sponge, instrument, and needle counts with circulating RN.
• Passes sterile instruments to the surgical team during procedures.
• Assists with gowning and gloving, positioning equipment and instruments.
• Assists with transportation and positioning of patients and operative limbs.
• Prepares supplies and equipment per preference cards.
• Assists with sterilization and maintenance of supplies and equipment.
• Monitors inventory, orders, and restocks supplies and equipment.
• Acknowledges and adheres to established guidelines for discarding out-of-date items.

Provides intraoperative care to patients by functioning as the scrub person assisting the surgical team during an operative procedure.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION, EXPERIENCE, AND/OR LICENSURE:

1.Current licensure as a Licensed Practical NurseANDtwo(2)years ofpreviousscrub experience,

OR Completion of a Surgical Technology Program AND surgical technologist certification,

2.Obtain certification in Basic Life Support within30 daysof hire date.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

EXPERIENCE:

1.One year of Surgical Technology experience.

2.Advanced knowledge in desired specialty.

2.Assiststhe circulating RN in monitoring technique of allpersonsin the OR tomaintaina sterile field.

3. Passes sterile instruments to the surgical team during a surgical procedure.

4. Assists with transportation and positioning of the patients to includeassistingthe surgical team by holding retractors and position of operative limb under direction of surgeon.

5. Prepares supplies and equipment for surgical procedure following preference cards.

6. Assists with sterilization and maintenance of sterile and non-sterile supplies and equipment.

7. Monitors inventory; orders; andrestockssupplies, instruments, and equipment.

10.Removes out-of-date items and discards or reprocesses following established guidelines.

11.Assists with the general cleaning duties of the department.

12.Performs equipment checks as assigned.

13.Assists with the proper recording of patient charges.

14.Call with a response time of 30 minutes.

15.Serves as a mentor to the team and supports the development of level one technologists

1. Completionofannualrequired education related to specialty accreditation as defined by accreditation standards.Training may be completed through CBLs,trainings, In-services, and competency validation.
