Job summary

OhioHealth in Columbus seeks a Surgical Technologist to prepare operating rooms, gather supplies, and deliver instruments during procedures. The role includes acting as a second assistant, maintaining sterile technique, and assisting in decontamination and room turnover after surgeries.

Responsibilities include patient-side assistance, equipment handling, and mentoring new staff while meeting unit competency requirements.

Qualifications

• Completion of OhioHealth OR ST Fellowship or equivalent training
• Graduated from an accredited (CAAHEP) surgical technologist school preferred or equivalent military training or 10+ years’ experience as a Surgery Technician
• High school diploma or GED
• BLS
• ST certification preferred
• Must demonstrate basic critical thinking skills on their introductory team
• Perform primary role independently
• Demonstrate the ability to anticipate surgeon needs and communicates these with staff
• Identify actual or potential emergency situations and intervene safely with assistance and/or supervision
• Independently scrub complex cases in 1-2 assigned service line specialties

Responsibilities

• Prepare for surgical cases by obtaining and preparing appropriate supplies, equipment and instruments.
• Establish sterile field and present instruments to the operating team; deliver instruments/supplies and act as 2nd assistant as needed.
• Assist with decontamination of the room, supplies and instruments post operatively; assist with room turnover and equipment maintenance.
• Mentor new associates and participate in unit operations, competency requirements and ongoing training.
