Job summary

Tufts Medicine is seeking a Surgical Technician to support the operating room team by preparing rooms, passing instruments, and helping maintain patient safety during invasive procedures. Under RN guidance, you will ensure a sterile environment, anticipate surgeon needs, and contribute to efficient case flow.

Responsibilities include setting up instrument carts, updating physician preference cards, and assisting in general OR activities.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Completion of accredited Surgical Technology program or military training.
• Surgical Technician certification within 12 months of program completion.
• BLS certification required.

Responsibilities

• Assists in setup for surgical procedures according to procedures and physician preferences.
• Sets up case carts with instruments and equipment for next day cases.
• Performs the role of scrub person during procedures and maintains sterile field.
• Carries out technical tasks other than cutting, clamping and suturing of tissues.
• Applies electrocautery to bleeders under surgeon supervision.
• Adapts to schedule changes; maintains skill level across specialties.
• Demonstrates cost consciousness in equipment and supplies.
• Functions effectively in emergencies and assists in patient transfer to rooms.
• May assist anesthesiologist and other personnel; participates in OR cleaning and on-call coverage.
